Building 3D vascular networks with specific architectural features for tissue engineering
Repair of large tissues remains a major clinical challenge. In this context, tissue engineering may offer alternative for treating the damaged tissue. Nevertheless, the main obstacle in the field of tissue engineering, is the creation of vascular network, necessary for the supply of oxygen and nutrients deep within the tissue and eliminating the waste. The aim of this project is to create a well defined vascularization in the large collagen scaffolds using various channel-forming techniques, and to investigate the interactions between blood vessel network and different cells seeded in a co-culture.
